Renault agrees to sell its former engine base at Viry-Châtillon to Dumarey

Renault Group has agreed to sell Alpine Racing SAS, the operation at the historic Viry-Châtillon site that built its Formula 1 engines, to Belgian engineering group Dumarey. Around 150 jobs are to be kept; the price has not been disclosed.

The end of an era in Viry

The factory in Viry-Châtillon, south of Paris, has built Renault's grand prix engines for decades. On 22 October Renault Group announced that it has agreed to sell Alpine Racing SAS, the company running the site, to Dumarey Group, a Belgian powertrain and engineering specialist chaired by its founder Guido Dumarey.

What has been agreed

According to RacingNews365 and French business media including Usine Nouvelle, the roughly 150 employees would transfer to the buyer. Usine Nouvelle reports that jobs and social benefits are protected for 24 months. Once the deal closes, the operation will continue under the Dumarey name and ownership. The financial terms were not disclosed.

French outlets say the sale is still subject to the legal information and consultation procedure with employee representatives, and expect completion before the end of the year.

What Dumarey wants

Dumarey said the aim is to keep the site's technical knowledge and develop it further. Both companies said the expertise at Viry could in future benefit racing teams, which suggests the buyer wants to enter motorsport as a supplier.

Background

In 2024 Renault decided to stop building its own Formula 1 power units. The Alpine team has used Mercedes customer engines since the start of 2026, so no Alpine race car now runs an engine from Viry. The site had been earmarked for a conversion towards other activities, which reports describe as only partly successful.

What comes next

The closing date depends on the consultation procedure. Reports differ on exactly when engine production at Viry ended, so we do not give a date.
